Space Invaders in Sao Paulo

21 Sep

Space Invaders are now truly an international phenomenon as they have reached the Southern American continent. Sao Paulo saw the pixelated creatures infiltrate their graffiti-covered walls in July 2011. Incidentally, graffiti in Sao Paulo (called Pixaçaos) is very distinctive and has its own characteristic style. Invader chose to scout the many old tiles shops around the city in search for material, used later to make up the creatures. A very smart move that placed the space invaders a bit closer to the local culture. The invasion was followed by an exhibition in the Museum of Art of Sao Paulo. Go here for more.

Invader 1000

Invader, the French urban artist who made a name for himself with works inspired by the space invaders game, is celebrating his 1000th space invader in France with a big exhibition in “La Générale” Paris. Apparently, his Rubik Cubism works hold a prominent place in the show, with many on display, each made of 225 Rubik cubes and representing famous figures like The Doors, Patti Smith and the Ramones.
